Yilan gives me a sense of calm. I love bicycling down through the rice paddy fields, passing by farms and industrial sheds, while admiring the beautiful patina of the old metal structures. I like the simplicity of the lines of the metal corrugated siding, dotted with rusty bolts spaced on each stud, creating a calming pattern. I passed by this shed after a heavy rain and the sky was this gorgeous, perfectly velvet blue grey purple color. I couldn't wait to get home to try to paint it! I loved the juxtaposition of the sky against the against the simple soft sea foam green color. The 'yIlan Calm' was the first iteration which explores color and composition. The second version to pushes more abstraction and exploring a place. The lines of the siding and the rhythmn of the rusty screws were exaggerated with their expansion into the sky and blending with the surrounding buildings
